Work. Class. Homework. Life. Kelley, like so many other Gateway students, finds it easier to balance all aspects of her life thanks to Gateway’s online Learn On Demand program. After moving to this area, I didn’t think I’d have any problems finding a job, but I was wrong. I had years of experience and seemed to be qualified, but I wasn’t being offered any jobs. In Florida, I had years of experience managing three of seven locations for a group of physicians, which was unusual because I didn’t have a degree. Then it dawned on me, the main quality I was missing, the only thing I could think of that was keeping me from being offered these positions, was a college education. That’s when I came to Gateway.I have three small children so I needed a school that would allow me to take online courses, classes that were convenient with my schedule, and something affordable. Gateway had everything to offer. I enrolled in the Gateway Learn On Demand program, which allowed me to take courses online and work at my own pace. This way, I am not missing out on quality time with my girls, and I can still manage to work full time.
I chose business administration for my major and through my Gateway connections pursued a co-op opportunity with a Cincinnati-based worldwide consumer products company. I’ve been working for it ever since! My time management skills, and the connections I’ve made through Gateway, gave me an opportunity to be featured in a textbook. The book is called Working, 5edition. It teaches high school students about the value of higher education, career choices, co-ops and internships, hard work, dedication, and what it is like to have to learn to balance all aspects of life.
I truly believe that if it weren’t for the entirely online program offered at Gateway, I would not be finishing as quickly as I am. This program makes it possible for literally anyone to get an education through Gateway. I will soon complete my associate degree requirements and plan to obtain a bachelor’s degree in business administration, external relations or something in the communications field. I always remind myself that every experience is merely what you make of it. If you put in the effort, you’ll see great results. I am more because of Gateway.
