Title III is a federally-funded program
from the Department of Education that supports improvements in
educational quality, management, and financial stability at qualifying
postsecondary institutions. Gateway Community and Technical College was
awarded a five-year, $1.6 million, grant in 2004 to address student
needs. The grant has three components to meet the
mission of Gateway
community and Technical College:
-
Strengthening Instructional Programs
strengthens developmental studies by infusing the courses with
strategies for learning styles and computer-assisted instruction in
order to address the needs of at-risk students. These instructional
strategies will then be added to the introductory “gateway” courses
in the academic and technical degree fields.
-
Strengthening
Student Support
Services includes a wide array of services geared toward the at-risk
student including early intervention, student tracking, intrusive
advising, career planning ,
student workshops and outcomes assessment.
-
Faculty/Staff
Professional Development
is the foundation of the other components and will provide training
programs in pedagogy, methodology and technology to the faculty and
staff. These strategies will be designed to assist the instructors
to better reach “at risk” students in their classrooms.
