Gateway Community & Technical College
Vice President for Diversity

Diversity Team:
VP for Diversity: Vacant
Committee Members: SGA Senators

The Diversity Team Purpose & Goal:
It is the goal of the SGA Diversity Team to create and maintain a diverse environment at GCTC where all students can thrive, meeting and exceeding educational and personal objectives. This is inclusive from pre-acceptance to the community college through post-graduation and beyond.

We understand that embracing the differences in values, styles, and perspectives is essential to getting the best performance from all students. Effectively managing our diversity increases our creativity, flexibility, productivity, competitiveness, and overall satisfaction in the college arena.

The Diversity Team Mission:
Our mission is to ensure a culture where respect, dignity, and accountability are present in all GCTC pursuits. We will operate under policies and practices that recognize the value and contribution of every individual to achieve excellence in higher education, student satisfaction, and community relations.

The Diversity Strategic Plan Includes:

  • Establish “Safe Zones” at every campus. These are clearly marked areas/rooms where anyone and everyone should feel comfortable to come for any reason, with no judgment or discrimination.
  • Participate more openly with the surrounding communities we serve and promote our diversity.
  • Enact a PR Campaign in which the students and faculty become more aware of the SGA and what we stand for. Obtain links on the main website, perhaps an individual site as well.
  • Staff the SGA Offices and post who will be there and when. Comment Drop Box & Follow-Up.
  • Work with VP for Public Relations and create a marketing campaign to promote GCTC. (Not only promote the college as a whole, but also the Diversity, Growth, and Achievement.)
  • Work with VP for Student Life and create an atmosphere that is acceptable and appealing to all students. Streamline registration process; keep GCTC office staff available and accessible.
  • Educate all individuals about issues of diversity to increase their awareness and ability to manage relationships with faculty, students, surrounding community, and ultimately in their future careers.
