This field consists of repairing damaged bodies and structural parts of automobiles and light trucks according to factory specifications. Students must enjoy physically demanding work, be detail oriented, and take pride in doing a high quality job.
The Auto Body Technology program prepares students for positions in the collision repair and restoration industry. These positions include: auto body helper, auto body painter helper, auto body painter, used car renovator, and collision repair technician. This may include working for an independently owned shop or a used or new car dealership.
Employment of automotive body repairers is expected to increase about as fast as the average for all occupations through the year 2008. Opportunities should be best for persons with formal training in automotive body repair and mechanics. (Source: Occupational Outlook Handbook 2000-01)
