This field consists of installing, servicing, and repairing environmental control systems in residences, department stores, office buildings, and commercial establishments.

Employment Opportunities

The Air Conditioning Technology program prepares students for positions in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration field. These positions include air conditioning/refrigeration technician, apprentice HVAC, mechanic, refrigeration mechanic, estimator, production worker, sales/service, journeyman, HVAC mechanic, and inspector. This may include working for a company that installs or repairs specific environmental controlling systems. It may also include working independently.

Job Outlook

Job prospects for highly skilled heating, air-conditioning, and refrigeration mechanics and installers are expected to be very good, particularly for those with technical school or formal apprenticeship training to install, remodel, and service new and existing systems.
