Accounting Technology
Description
 The Accounting and Finance Technology program provides students with knowledge of business fundamentals. The program will also provide skills necessary to work with both manual and automated accounting systems. Students will learn the proper procedure for computing, classifying, recording, and verifying numerical data as it relates to financial records. Students will gain a background in accounting principles, theories and practice, with an introduction to computer applications, business law, management principles, and communications. Students are required to participate in cooperative education or an intern work experience under supervision in an automated office.

Nature of Work
This field consists of compiling, computing, classifying, verifying, and auditing accounts and records that relate to financial transactions for business organizations. Students must like working with numbers
Employment Opportunities
The Accounting and Finance Technology program prepares students for entry-level positions in the accounting field and related occupations. These positions include bookkeeper, accounting clerk, cost clerk, and payroll clerk.
Job Outlook
Virtually all job openings for bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks through 2008 will stem from replacement needs. Each year, numerous jobs will become available, as these clerks transfer to other occupations or leave the labor force.
Although turnover is lower than other record clerks, the large size of the occupation insures plentiful job openings, including many opportunities for temporary and part-time work. (Source: Occupational Outlook Handbook 2000-01)
