The Urban Campus is planned for Scott Boulevard in a general area between Third and Seventh Streets. Located within several blocks of the growing arts, wedding and business districts, the Northern Kentucky Convention Center, and the Riverfront Commons initiatives, this location will enable Gateway and the Kenton County Public Library to partner in a manner that will have an exponential impact on the residents of the urban core. The site is within walking distance of two parking structures, is on a major public transit route and makes use of existing infrastructure and commu¬nity assets. The site exceeds the college’s master plan criteria and complements the evolving
Covington urban master plan and the goals of Vision 2015 in the areas of education, economic development and urban renaissance.
Based on community input, the project scope has been broadened to include the development of a multiple-facility, comprehensive urban campus that will be a signature development in Covington and will rival the best urban campuses in America. The revised scope includes the combination of new construction and the use of existing structures that can be renovated into high quality educational space. It is currently estimated that the new Urban Campus will exceed 250,000 gross square feet of space and serve over 5,000 students annually once completed.
The entire campus will be developed in a manner consistent with the nature of the urban setting. It will emphasize sustainability features that complement the historic architecture of the area.
