Gateway Community and Technical College is all about providing convenient access to higher education for the residents of our region. That’s why we are working with many community partners to develop a new campus in downtown Covington. We are pleased that the community has embraced the addition of the Urban Campus in Covington, and we are excited to share the background, current status and future plans for this new endeavor! Explore the current status of our plans by navigating these pages or read the 2nd Annual Status Report on the Urban Campus Project.

If you’re interested in news about the Urban Campus, you’ll always find it here first!

The Urban Campus Master Plan has been completed. In addition, Gateway has unveiled a Six-Year Capital Plan to seek funding of nearly $62.8 million from public and private sources to establish a multiple-facility, comprehensive, signature campus in downtown Covington. The campus will eventually serve over 5,000 students annually and create a ripple effect in the urban core for eco¬nomic and community development. We continue to meet with business leaders, civic and government leaders, and school officials to further refine and identify the programs and services best suited to students at the Urban Campus. Feel free to contact us with your ideas. We want to hear them.

Dear Community Friends:

I am excited to share with you that our Urban Campus Master Plan is nearly complete and will soon be released. That plan will provide us a framework from which we will continue to develop the Urban Campus. While our state’s economy is slowly improving, lagging state revenues and mounting fiscal challenges prevented the Kentucky General Assembly from approving our request for new funds to build the entire campus. Our campaign to raise private funds for the campus is continuing and we anticipate major investments to be announced this summer which will allow for more development. Most importantly, more new students are coming to the Urban Center on Scott Street in Covington which will be “ground zero” for the Urban campus project. Over 1900 people were served from our center this past spring-- an increase of over 1000% in just three years.

We are committed to the urban core of the region and have invested over $3.0 million of our own funds to date, but we need your continued support and advocacy. Together we will transform the urban core by providing residents with the kind of high quality, affordable education and training needed to either transfer to a senior college or enter the workforce with the skills needed in the 21st Century.

Sincerely,
Ed Hughes
