We recognize outstanding student achievement during a “Night of Excellence” conducted annually in the spring. Students are nominated by faculty for most awards. Recognition is based primarily on academic and technical excellence, leadership, and service to the community, college or fellow students. Members of Phi Theta Kappa, the National Technical Honor Society, Phi Rho Pi forensic society and scholarship recipients also are recognized at the event. For additional information, check with your program advisor.
Two students from Gateway Community and Technical College are chosen annually for the KCTCS All-Academic Team. The selection is based on a rigorous process that focuses on academic performance and campus involvement. The 32 KCTCS All-Academic Team Scholars, two for each member college, are part of a national program sponsored by national honor society Phi Theta Kappa, USA Today and the American Association of Community Colleges.
The President’s Award is presented at commencement to a Gateway graduate who has made significant contributions to the overall development of the college or KCTCS. Students are nominated by faculty and staff and complete personal statements. Nominees are evaluated by a committee of faculty and staff, and recommendations are sent to the college president for final selection.
