Costs and Financial Aid

Work and Learn

The Work and Learn program promotes the success of Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program (KTAP) recipients who are:

  • in adult basic education trying to obtain their GED, or
  • high school graduates needing basic skills remediation prior to enrolling in college.

Work and Learn enables you gain work experience while earning up to $2,500 per fiscal year that does not reduce your K-TAP income.

  • The program is a collaborative between the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) and the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services.
  • Along with academic support, the Work and Learn Program supplies such benefits as:
  • Access and referrals to community resources
  • Job placements that meet KTAP work component requirements
  • Job readiness training in resume writing, interviewing and career exploration
  • Paid work experience with both private and non-profit employers
  • Assistance with admissions and financial aid for students transitioning to Gateway

While providing case management support, we also advocate and act as liaison between you and your caseworker.
