Students who plan to NOT graduate from high school, but plan to pursue a GED, can be admitted into certificate, diploma, and associate degree programs, but cannot receive an associate degree unless they show proof of a high school or GED completion. The student must complete a Ability to Benefit form.
All new Gateway students must provide ACT scores of 18 or above in subject areas (Mathematics, English, and Reading) or take the COMPASS test before meeting with an advising center staff member and being enrolled in classes.
According to federal regulations, students who plan to NOT graduate from high school but instead pursue a GED must achieve certain scores on the COMPASS subtests. Those scores are: Pre-Algebra/Numerical (25 or higher), Reading (62 or higher), and Writing (32 or higher). Scores must be achieved in all areas to receive federal or state financial aid.
