Student Responsibilities

Students must meet with Disability Services each semester and request accommodations each semester. You should not request accommodations directly from the course instructor if you do not have an accommodation memo. Give accommodation memos to your professors soon after you meet with Disability Services. Professors usually do not know that you get accommodations if they do not get your accommodation memos. Talk with your professor about your recommended accommodations. Successful accommodations require communication! You may or may not be comfortable with talking about your disability. But, you need to be able to talk about what accommodations you need.

Contact Disability Services if you change your schedule. This is especially important if:

  • you use texts in different formats
  • you use interpreting or captioning services
  • your class location was changed
  • you are using adaptive technology that has to be moved or re-installed.

Contact Disability Services immediately if the professor does not take actions on your accommodations or if the accommodations are not working for you.

These are not all of your responsibilities. It is a list of a few of the important responsibilities when you use Disability Services.
