Meet Dr. Yohanes Honu
My role at Gateway:
I am the Division Chair for Science, Technology, and Mathematics (STEM). I also teach general biology courses.
How long I’ve worked here:
Since 2005.
Why I do what I do:
I like to serve. I have collaborative full and part-time faculty that I work with, and I try my best to apply bottom-up leadership skills. It is rewarding to pass on the knowledge I have to the students I teach. My students have told me how they apply the information they learn to their personal lives beyond their academic achievements.
My teaching philosophy:
Two heads are better than one. Discussing subjects together is effective because during the process we all learn.
I like our students because:
I enjoy their willingness to tell their stories.
A little more about me:
My favorite book is The Five Dysfunctions of a Team; it’s an excellent leadership book. I co-authored eight peer-reviewed publications as of September 2009.
