My role at Gateway: I teach history and political science here at Gateway. Years at Gateway: I have been here since the summer of 2001. Where am I from?: I am a native of Dayton, Ohio. Why do I do what I do? I love teaching history and political science because each discipline looks at the big picture when reporting on the past and the present, giving us valuable insight into human behavior. I love sharing this big picture with students. Why I like our students: I love teaching at Gateway because our students tend to be courageous people who are willing to take risks to better their lives and the lives of their families. Many of them juggle a lot of different responsibilities in addition to their class work. My philosophy: My teaching philosophy supports life-long learning and the recognition that everyone, regardless of age, benefits by widening their horizons and challenging themselves. Having the opportunity to teach here at Gateway Community and Technical College is truly a privilege. About me: My favorite pastime is reading. It’s impossible for me to say what my favorite book is, but I am particularly drawn to historical fiction and biography. Among my favorite movies, all of which are fairly ancient: Annie Hall, Patton, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and Dead Poets Society.
