Meet Amy

My role at Gateway: Criminal Justice Program Coordinator

How long I’ve worked here: Employed by Gateway for 10 years. Nine as an Adult Education instructor and 1 in my current position.

My hometown: I am from the Northern Kentucky area and love it here.

Why I do what I do: I do what I do because I believe in Gateway’s mission.  I know that Gateway is an institution that is committed to the community and the students that attend here.  I love serving a diverse group of students that are appreciative and committed.  The field of criminal justice is one of society’s main avenues to ensure that our liberties and freedoms remain ours and are not trampled on by the police, courts or government.

My philosophy: If you are going to undertake a task or try to reach a goal, go at with every fiber in your being. You are the only one that can ultimately finish what you start but you also have to learn to accept the help that is available along the way. Embrace the challenges and trials that you will face and then you will acquire wisdom and growth.

I like our students because: I like our students because they are diverse.  My classes are filled with students of all ages, races, career goals, and rich experiences.  They are a joy to teach, and because of their diversity I learn more from them than they do from me!

A little more about me: My favorite movie classics are Roman Holiday, The Breakfast Club and Weird Science.  My favorite recent movies are The Seven Christmas’, The Hangover, and Law Abiding Citizen.  My Criminal Procedure class talked me in to taking them on a field trip to see this movie and I loved it.  The best part was when I realized that they knew what was going in the movie from the material that they had learned in class!!  It was a great learning experience for all of us.

My favorite books are The Secret Life of Bees, Water for Elephants, and The Physicks Book of Deliverance Dane.  I also like Jodi Picoult novels.  I love to read but usually have to do it in the summer!

I love the beach.  It is the best place to relax. My husband and my daughters are the most important people in my life and they bring me great joy.
