Blackboard Student Training Sessions
Welcome to the 2008 Spring Semester and KCTCS eLearning courses: web-enhanced and web-based courses on the Internet using the Blackboard Course Management System. This page provides you with the information you need for Blackboard training, accessing resources, ordering textbooks, and getting assistance for online courses this semester.
E-mail Account: You must be a registered Gateway student and activate your KCTCS student e-mail account before classes begin. Training in student e-mail use is conducted during orientation sessions, and instructions are included in the Student Handbook. You will use your Peoplesoft UserID and Password to access your e-mail and Blackboard account for your online courses.
Online Academic Calendar: If you take a course totally online, (identified as Blackboard Web World “Z”), follow the KCTCS Academic Calendar, NOT Gateway’s. This calendar can be found online at: http://www.kctcs.edu/distancelearning/Calendar.htm
Students should select a Blackboard Training session that is offered several weeks to several days BEFORE the start of their online class. The following table of class start dates and Blackboard Training sessions are color coded to help you find a training session that will coincide with the start date of the summer online session for which you are enrolled.

Textbooks: If you take an online KCTCS class (identified as Blackboard Web World “Z”), you will need to order your textbook from the online bookstore: http://www.whywaitforbooks.com. Gateway’s bookstore does not carry textbooks for the online courses, unless the course is taught by a Gateway instructor.
Distance Learning Website: Look on Gateway’s website: http://www.gateway.kctcs.edu/ and go to the Become a Student or Current Students page. You will find the Distance Learning website link located on this page. Or simply type in and go to www.gateway.kctcs.edu/elearning.
