Edgewood Campus Expansion
Groundbreaking Ceremony

Edgewood Groundbreaking Ceremony Gateway is building a second building at the Edgewood Campus. The $16 million Allied Health/Science Center will contain 54,000 square feet of space and will house Gateway’s nursing, practical nursing, medical assisting, massage therapy and medical information technology programs, as well as biology, anatomy and related science classes.

The center joins an existing facility on the Edgewood Campus. When the new building is complete in the spring of 2008, the existing facility will close for renovation, which is expected to be complete later that year. After renovation, the campus will have 80,000 square feet of space, allowing for expansion of Gateway’s allied health programs and science courses. The $16 million cost of the project is being funded by the state.

“Gateway is expanding to meet the needs of our students and the region,” Dr. Hughes added. “Our enrollment increased more than 20 percent this fall and has jumped by 300 percent in the past five years. Our growth will help the region meet the growing demand for health care services in the region.”

The center is only the second building ever constructed specifically for Gateway. The first was the Boone Campus, which opened in December 2005. The Edgewood Campus originally opened in 1983 and operated as the Northern Kentucky Health Occupations Center prior to Gateway’s formation in 2001. Read More about the ground breaking.
