What is Student Support Services?

Student Support Services is a federally funded grant program designed to assist qualified Gateway Community and Technical College students to have a successful college experience by increasing academic performance, student retention rates and graduation rates.

The program helps students build:

  • Strong academic skills
  • Personal confidence
  • Academic and career goals

Who is eligible?

A student might qualify for Student Support Services if he/she meets with the following eligibility criteria:

  • First-generation college student
  • Federal income guidelines
  • Federally recognized disability

What does the program do?

Student Support Services staff will design an individual success plan with each participant to use as a tool to accomplish personal and academic goals. The plan will be based on each individual’s

  • Study skill needs
  • Academic/financial need
  • Career/major choice and transfer exploration
  • Personal needs

What services are offered?

  • Academic support and advising
  • Academic skill development
  • Career development and career placement assistance
  • FREE individual and group tutoring
  • Short-term personal support counseling
  • Financial aid counseling
  • Social/cultural activities
  • Workshops on study skills, note-taking, time management, test taking, stress management, and many others
  • Assistance with resumé writing and interviewing skills
  • Assistance with the transfer process to a four-year institution

How will I benefit from Student Support Services?

All services offered by Student Support Services are FREE to qualifying participants. These services are designed to give students structured, personalized assistance. This will help you to

  • Have a successful college experience;
  • Graduate from Gateway Community and Technical College with the credential you seek; and Transfer to a four-year institution.
